    Activation key

I have Windows 7 Ultimate. It has been verified as legal over the past few months
that I have had it. It came installed on the HP ProBook that I bought about 6 months ago. I am now being asked for an activation Key and being told that my Windows 7 is not genuine (and also that it is a 'default' version, I think).
So I need a new activation key. I have seen cheapish ones offered which claim to be genuine. My first question is whether or not these versions for around $29 are genuine. And are they safe? I also need to know if I can buy the activation key and type it in the "Activate Windows Now" box without actually reinstalling Windows, since it is already installed. Or are activation keys strictly limited ti a specific single product. I am very very untechy so do not like the idea of reinstalling. If Windows would just download as an "update" and recognise that my computer already has it, but still let me use the new activation
key, that would make things easier. Also I hate to pay over $200 for something I already have so would like a cheap, but legal option if possible. Any help would be appreciated.

You already have a legit key that was purchased with your HP. Use the one on the sticker. If that doesn't work, you will be prompted to call Microsoft, and they will get you resolved easily. You shouldn't be thinking of purchasing anything.

If you post the last 5 digits/characters of your current key, I'll be able to tell you whether its a default key. If this was a new, OEM Probook then it should have come with genuine windows.

The $29 versions are 100% illegal. These are basically MSDN/technet keys being sold illegally and are liable to be blocked by MS anytime, so dont waste money on them.

You dont need to reinstall windows to install the key, unless the key is for a different edition.

The key that has been in use up to now is not being accpeted. And there is NO option to get anyone on the phone. Is that because I am in Korea and the phone option is not available her?

Well, if you believe the current key is fine, you can use the Korea number on this page.

Microsoft Volume Licensing - Activation Centers

But remember, OEM installs are supported by the OEM and not by MS.

You can run the mgadiag tool here and paste the result here, that'll help diagnose.

    Windows Product Key: *****-*****-TMVMJ-BBMRX-3MBMV

See that key? Thats the default (trial) key for win7 ultimate. Thats the key that serves you out the grace period, its time bombed and cannot be used forever. So no point in talking to MS and OEM. If theres a sticker on that computer with a key for win7, use that with the phone activation method otherwise buy a new key.

I'm sorry to tell you this but your Office install is not legal either.

    I suspected something like that.

    Can I install online?
