No I have not messed with any settings. I have probably clean installed windows 4 times and only loaded my Lan motherboard driver and it still won't update. The PC can't connect to the internet without the Lan driver. What is funny right now is that I keep getting a window in IE that tells me this is not a genuine windows product. If I look under system though it tells me it is activated. That started when one of the solutions had me download a geniune software plugin for IE. I bought this copy from Best Buy about 8 months ago.

A Microsoft support guy asked me to run msdt and gave me a code and the program errors.

I get the picture below even though in my control panel it says windows is activated.

The PC will not accept registration number for anything. Like if I install Avast Pro and give it the license file it fails. I play the game Crysis 2 and when I put the serial number in it won't register. The same error code 0xC80003FA keeps showing up when I try and use Microsoft products. That code is defined as hrReadVerifyFailure. After reading about this error for many many hours it is suggested that it means the PC can't write to the SoftwareDistribution folder. Does this sound reasonable and if so why? Most of the suggested fixes are things you guys have already given me. I have changed the name of the SysDist folder and it doesn't help.

Just thought I would post a follow up to this problem for other people. Upon a fresh install of windows 7 I was getting a bunch of ESENT 474 issues in the event logs-system databases corrupt. No matter what I did to fix it they were always corrupt. Replaced the CPU and the problem was immediately fixed. Somehow the CPU was corrupting the system files.

Hope this helps anybody who needs it.
