Windows 7 Not Geniune (but it is!)

    Hello all,
A while back after installing an update, my background went black and the computer started displaying the 'Windows 7 Not Geniune' messages. I should note that this is on a netbook (Eee PC) that I bought new from Best Buy in the US (I assume that they don't load pirated software onto the computers they sell), and I am still running the Windows 7 starter that it came with. So, I have not pirated the software, it is valid and paid for. I've searched up and down trying to figure out a solution to this, and none of the so-called fixes have worked.

Can't go back to the store, because I have since moved to Italy. Also, the code on the bottom of the computer (Windows certificate of authenticity) has worn off and is unreadable now.

    Please help!!!

Run this tool, click on Continue, click Copy, paste the results into notepad, save as .txt file, upload/paste the file here.

Your windows does not appear genuine.

    1) The bios has no compatible SLIC table, so obviously OEM activation is not possible without the use of illegal methods.

    2) The bios is dated Sept. 2009 which is just when win7 came out, so borderline.

    3) AMI bios 0905, AFAIK is a vista compatible bios.

In short, this computer did not come with win7 preinstalled and preactivated and is not a genuine OEM system.

I bought the computer in December '09, and like I said before, from a well known national (American) electronics store, Best Buy. Do you think it is possible that they sold me a computer with a pirated version of the OS? Is there anything I can do about it? I am not a computer expert, all I know is I bought a brand new netbook for the normal price from a reputable place, and I didn't change the OS and have never pirated sofware.

Well, if you believe you bought genuine windows, the only thing I can suggest is to flash the machine with the latest bios, its possible the SLIC may have become corrupted. If that doesnt help, contact the OEM support or Bestbuy support or buy a new license.

I just talked to a tech from Best Buy and apparently they have a lot of problems with people (employees?) putting counterfeit software on the computers and them selling them out of the store. Argh. Don't think I will be buying from them again...

    Hello Bill2,

I also encountered the same thing. But I'm not sure if we have the same issue about employees selling OS.

Can you also help me with mine problem. Here is the diagnostic report:

Hope to hear from you very soon. I am about to lose patience on this notebook whenever it pops up a counterfeit message. And when it popped up, all systems and tools got jammed.

This only happened after I made a boot virus scan with avast.

Thanks and will be looking forward for your great help,

    Hello,

I know this is an old post, but I was just wondering if you have solved your problem? Just recently my computer has been doing the exact same thing, but, we bought it with Vista pre-installed and then had to wipe my computer due to viruses. Then we legitly bought Windows 7 from either Best Buy or else Comp. USA....can't quite remember. Kind of tired of my computer not working, and I really need it to work properly due to school. I know I probably should have started my own thread, but, I didn't want to upset anyone by posting it then having someone say that there's already someone posting who has the same exact problem. Any help would be appreciated!
