    Which updates W 7 U are required

Which updates to Windows 7 Ultimate are required to help an installation run smoothly without interference from MS? How do I tell which ones to install, and which ones to bypass?

Why not run all of the critical updates that are recommended? That's what I do and things are just fine.

Exactly ,Just take them as they come ..

They are sent to you for a reason ,your system has a use for it or they wouldn't prompt you for it

Select each update in turn and check the information displayed on the right of your screen, which should give you some idea of why the update is being offered to you.

If, for any reason, you don't want an update, just right-click it and select Hide.

Following on from the good advice you have already received......

    Re your update settings -
    * I suggest you change them to notify you but let you choose when to download them.
    * Do a few at a time only rather than "oodles" at once.

    * Always make sure you have a current system restore point prior to downloading anything.

    * Sometimes in order to get updates to install properly, you may need to do them manually by Visiting Microsoft's Download Center.

Then you should install the ones listed as required or critical. Why would you want to bypass updates from the company who knows your OS the best? Do you ignore recalls from your car manufacturer?

I review the recalls on a case by case basis. if it's something that I don't use, or don't need...I just skip it. I like having more control over my car.

I'm a bit intrigued as to why you think Microsoft are being interfering by offering you updates.

You'd have more reason to moan at Microsoft if they didn't send you important updates and your computer was attacked by hackers as a result.
