Well, if you tell people the same thing for long enough they begin to believe you, so much so that even I was starting to wonder whether I'd seen them.

At my age, the marbles rattle uncontrollably at times.

It happens on all versions of Windows 7, the italics just signify the updates are for Ultimate and therefore you don't need to install them if you are using Home Premium or Professional.

Bit of a daft idea, if you ask me. Surely, it can't be too difficult for Microsoft to ensure you only get offered updates that are relevant to whicherever version you're using?

If the italic ones are optional, and the non-italic ones not optional, then why do they both show in the non-essential part of Windows Update?

    That is not the case.

As i explained previously, updates in italics are for Ultimate versions of Windows 7 only.

The fact that they are optional is irrelevant.

It would seem that I posted without updating the page and there were lots of other messages posted between.

Correct-a-mondo Andy, I had 96 optional language pack updates all in italics.
EDIT maybe not, I just got this one not in italics.
