    PC #2 Update

I finally decided to try manually installing those two (.NET 4) updates. I was able to do that.

I looked at the Windows Update Troubleshooter v1.3 suggestion, but I was not able to find out what it does specifically. That makes me feel uneasy.

The Win7 updates installed automatically today on this PC too.

    .
You did the correct thing by NOT downloading and running this um, tool.

Unless someone here that is an expert tells you to use a non MS diagnostic tool I would recommend you do not even download it!!!!

It's unfortunate that so many users out there don't stop and think before they jump to download and run things....

I think of it as a stranger coming to my door and wants to get in, am I really going to just open the door and invite them in???!!!!

    Follow-up

Yes, I would have felt better if that link was from Microsoft. Thank you for the feedback.

Sounds like we think all is well here with both PCs now. I really did not do anything to fix PC #2, so I guess that is my only item left. OH! I forgot to say yesterday that on PC #2 even after I activated Win7 (causing it to... uhhhh... reset sort of), it still did not install those 2 .NET 4 updates. What I mean by reset was the PC went from displaying the updates (and not installing them before activating Win7) to not displaying them. After activating Win7, both updates reappeared but still did not install.

    I activated Windows 7
Just a though. I don't think you can get all your Windows Updates unless your system is activated with the proper code.

Excellent thought, but I was within the 30 day period on PC #2.

Win7 is fully updateable in trial state.

Even if you extend the grace period to the max permissible (120 days), windows will be updateable.

Did you try to manually install one at a time?
