I have unchecked the box for other microsoft software updates. How to enable it again?
Thanks, Airbot for trying to help me. But I couldn't find a way how to enable the hidden box for "other microsoft software updates". My "Windows update / change settings" window has no box for it. Please help.
If you have unticked the Optional MS updates box like you said you did, it won't show up in the box anymore on the settings view.
You have to click on this link here -
Which will open up in Internet Explorer:
Then tick this box in IE and click "Next" -
Then choose Use current settings and click Install -
Then you can go back after that to settings and it will have those two settings there again like this -
And will look like this again in WU.

If you follow what I'm saying in the first link I posted in my first post in this thread, and the second one, you'll see you don't have the option in Settings anymore if you've disabled the optional updates. You have to go through the "find out More" link to get it back if you've disabled it, or never installed it in the first place.
Use this to show the screenshot.

If that is happening, you probably have something blocking or interfering with the IE link. Like a popup blocker/blocking javascript, or AntiVirus program, or security Add-on in IE.
Or maybe even Active X filtering blocking it.

What IE is it you have installed, IE8 or IE9?
airbot,
Thanks. I'd never not had it checked.
I just unchecked it and sure enough, as you said, the option is no longer there.
Now to re-enable.
Thanks so much, Airbot! Now you can see my screenshot above.
