    Tommy,
Since we are down to only one machine giving troubles, would you please use the specs for that machine and fill in your system specs?

    Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (3rd item in the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec
    (left-hand column)

To gather info, use SIW or Speccy or System Info

Add the word laptop or desktop or netbook to the
    “system manufacturer” block, for example,
    Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
    MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on the SAVE CHANGES button.

    Hello Tommy!

If you want to deal with two computers at once, feel free to create a separate thread in this same sub-forum, and we can do that, however, as has already been agreed, please no logs from your Desktop computer in this thread :)

Firstly, please run the System Update Readiness Tool: Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2

Now please copy the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder to your Desktop, right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder, and upload the new file which is created on your Desktop here.

    Thanks a lot!

    Hello Tommy,

Can I please re-quote this post? A slight change. You may post both, but make sure that they are clearly and correctly labelled between the two machines. I will check to make sure that they have not been mislabelled before attempting any fix though.

    Thanks a lot!

    Thanks again guys,
I uninstalled Comodo & MWB completely (Is Comodo recommended by anyone ? The guy that set-up my system swears by it.)
I ran Scannow 3 times on the trot.

I now have managed to download IE9 - yooo reeka.

In high spirits I tried the very same thing on the laptop - expecting the same result - but,,,,,,
it made no difference. This one is obstinate about downloading SP1. The symptoms are pretty similar to the desktop, but with the different file.

Shall I start another post – although I think this one covers just about everything,,,,, unless you know better ?

    Many thanks
Please can you post your CheckSUR.log. It might just help...

I ended up doing a complete Win-7 install.
At the moment, it did install SP1,,,, but because both my machines had a similar problem, I am expecting it again in the future.

Thanks all for your help here.

I am about to put up a new post called "Windows.old - do I need it ?".
Someone here might like to follow,,,,,

    cheers
