Windows Updates, Automatic Every time I shut down?

Is it typical that every time I shut down there is an automatic update (1of 1) waiting to be installed.

It seems to install okay and then shuts down but it just seems unusual. Now I did just recently (two weeks ago or so) install Windows 7 for the first time.

Could you go into windows updates and copy and post the update here. Just curious what the update is.

Are you saying the SAME update is downloaded, installed, reboot. Then the SAME update is there again?

No it's not normal to install an update every time you shut down. Keep an eye on the taskbar near the clock for a Windows Updates, Automatic Every time I shut down?-wu-icon.png to appear. It means there are updates ready to download or have downloaded, depending on your Windows Update settings.
Click the icon and the Update window will come up with a list of available ones.
With a new install all of the updates may not be finished yet, and a few do require a shut-down to install.

No, not exactly. I don't know what is allegedly being updated. When I shut down, the process is delayed waiting for an update (1 of 1). After a short while it goes ahead and shuts down.

When I next boot, I have no unusual indications except that maybe boot up takes longer than would be normal. I don't really know because I have not be operational with this configuration long enough to say "what is normal".

I have gained a bit of knowledge about what is happening. This snip I think says it all.

I do not have the icon that you reference. Also, I unchecked the update box to see if this was my pesky daily update.

This failed update happens a lot. Try and search for it (google). Ranges from Kernel errors, trying to update an older driver on top of another one with a lower compatibility rating. Did you also get a Windows Update error (some number)? Anything else that might help narrow things down?

    Also can try...

start -> eventvwr.msc (in the search box)

I would check through your logs and look for errors. I would clear the event viewer logs first. Then try running the updates again to see what new events pop up after the reboot.

On the right side "filter current log" I would select only critical and errors.

    See what comes up...

Dusty, that wouldn't be the update in question since it's optional and unchecked. Does the start button have a yellow shield on it when you shut down? That indicates an update needs to run. next time beofre shuting down, start>All Programs>Windows Update and post a snip of that, it should show what update(s) is pending.

It appears that these tell the story. I just don't know how to stop it.

You could try manually downloading the update to your desktop and installing it that way.

Here is another MS Support solution too. You receive error 0x80070103 when you use the Windows Update or Microsoft Update Web sites to install updates Seems it is trying to install an older driver or install one you already have. Try hiding this update as shown in the article.
