    randomly "this copy of windows is not valid"


    i walked in and out of the blue, my computer is telling me my copy of windows is not valid. i payed for windows 7 over a year ago when i built my computer. i havent done anything to mess with it. it just all of a sudden seems to have been deactivated...???

    First, download and run this tool and either paste the results here or save to notepad and upload the text file.

    ok, here's the results. let me know if you want the other tabs as well, the windows and licensing were the ones that sounded relevant to me

    Well not exactly. Just click on that Copy button at the bottom, open notepad and paste. Save as .txt file and upload the file here or paste the entire content here.

    The log looks OK. Go to Control panel- programs and features, in the left pane click on Installed Updates and locate kb971033 in the list. Uninstall it. Reboot, then in the browser address bar type microsoft.com/genuine/validate, let it install etc. After the green whirring circle, it'll tell you whether it thinks your system is genuine or not.

    If 1) still finds you non-genuine, you need to contact MS.

    didnt work. thanks for the help. this is absolutely ridiculous. the product key couldn't already be active on another computer because i've had this for a year now!

    Dont worry too much. That phone call is a pretty simple affair, wont take long to sort out. Its regrettable but it happens.

    ok, i'm trying to get to the automated phone activation but i'm not getting what the instructions say i should be getting in the link you posted.
