Hello, and welcome to the Seven Forums!

WARNING! This fix was created specifically for this user! If you are not this user, do not follow these instructions!
    @Fadown: Ignore the above :)

Download the attached .zip file. Inside it, will be two folders, Packages and Manifests.

Create these folders if they do not already exist: C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages\ and C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\winsxs\Manifests

Extract Packs.zip onto your Desktop. Please place the contents of my Desktop\Packages in C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages\ and my Desktop\Manifests in C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\winsxs\Manifests.

DO NOT place the .zip file in that folder, or the folders themselves. Make sure that a lot of files are in each of those Checksur folder.

Re-run the System Update Readiness Tool, and get me another copy of C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log.

Also, please retest Windows Updates (with fingers slightly crossed, no matter how much we both know that that won't help! lol.)

    Thanks a lot!

    Richard

    Hello!

Unfortunately, there is no way around fixing this issue. You only have these options:

    Fix this issue
    Forget about updates
    Clean Install
    Repair Install

The quickest and easiest way by far is to fix this issue. My above post should fix the issue in the vast majority of cases, but if it does not, I shall continue to work with you to actually fix the issue.

    same update problem for me

I am having the same update problem. I am running Win 7 on the laptop. For a couple of months now, my updates fail. Once in a while I can get a small one manually but that is it. I also have a problem in that my laptop is constantly downloading something (?) off the net. I have tried Malwarebytes several times in safe mode and nothing was found. I have a limit of 10 gigs a month here in Oregon since I am in the boondocks so a continually downloading computer isn't going to work out. With another new computer I just built, I tried downloading the 315 MB file for update that was suggested elswhere, transferred it to my laptop and ran it but didn't get any good results out of it. I don't have a clue as to what might be the problem. I have also tried downloading the win XP mode and Virtual program that MS has suggested but it will not start downloading even on my new computer. Other downloaded software has downloaded Ok and worked well. Does anyone have an idea what any of these problems are?
    Thank you.
