All font files deleted - only wingdings remain

Several times now I have turned on my PC to find that all the font files in Windows 7 have been deleted leaving only Wingdings active. The only solution so far has been to do a system restore, rolling back several auto updates.
Once was an anomaly - now its damn annoying.

Has anyone seen this and have any suggestions or other solutions?

On the upside, my wingding translation skills are improving daily

    Thx

    Welcome Windows Seven Forums.

At least we now know who to contact if we need a Wingding translator!

Seriously, I think you need to run a full anti-virus scan in Safe Mode, for which Malwarebytes is ideal.

Once you've done that you can try a repair install to get your fonts folder repopulated. Failing that, do you have another computer you can use to copy and paste the fonts into your fonts folder?

you can fix this by copying the fonts from a backup

    Hi,

I am getting this problem a lot now and found a hit on another forum about fixing it by copying the fonts over from another machine. This works but as the problem keep reoccuring I have now created a font backup directory on my problem machine and use that to restore the fonts. You dont need to do a full system restore!

I have run all sorts of malware and virus scan using all sorts of utilities including MalwareBytes. I also downloaded the Kaspersky utility that creates a boot CD so that it can scan the system before the bootloaders kick in on the harddisk. I also ran the Avast boot time scan.

My system is protected by Spyzooka and Kaspersky software and has been running well for years. The subscriptions are up to date and the updates are done several times a day on automated download.

So then if it is some form of malware causing this it is very clever and is avoiding most of the mainstream anti-malware software products that are out there.

Dare I suggest that the issue may be a bug in the windows software?

Getting really fedup of this now - Ubunto is calling...
