Weird windows update on notification area

Recently i noticed that my internet connection was too slow had a download speed of not more than 25kbps on a browser and 200kbps on torrent client from the original 600kbps torrent client and 200kbps up on browser download.

Accidentally i checked on windows update through

start menu -> Control Panel -> System Security - Windows Update and i clicked on check for updates and there is no important updates available but when i checked on notification area icons it says downloading 55%.

    Pls check screenshot http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/7792/scro.gif

if the above URL dows not work pls checked attached scr file.

    Thanks

Hello prim3geek and welcome to Seven Forums.

I think I'd run a full scan for malware with whatever antivirus/antispyware you're using. Then I'd download Malwarebytes Free, update it, and run it as well. (It picks up things other products seem to miss.)

Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a free download that removes viruses and malware from your computer

Let us know if anything is found and if the problem is resolved. If not we can suggest some other things to try.

    Hi,

I have one other suggestion : perform a scan from outside the Windows environment. Downlaod and burn F-Secure to a CD, then boot using the CD:

    Rescue CD

You might also consider trying this:

Back up any critical data before attempting the scans.

You can also try resetting the notification area icons.

    Notification Area Icons - Reset

and maybe set windows updates to notify but let me choose when to download and install.
