How do I reset Windows Update components?
None of them worked. The SFC scan screwed up my pc so I had to go back to a restore point.

I'm having the same issue when installing KB2586448 (IE 9 Security Update) however I'm getting Error Code 8007000D. I've tried Windows Update Troubleshooter, installing the Hotfix (Windows6.1-KB947821-v14-x64.msu) and also ran MS Fixit. All of them said the issue was resolved but after reboot, the update still fails. Didn't want to hijack your thread, just wanted to let you know you're not the only one having issues with Windows Update at the moment.

Pitt78, try downloading and running the System Update Readiness Tool, which can solve problems such as yours.

Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [August 2011]
