    * Clean up all Temp files...
    Start > Run > % temp% > ok > organise > select all > organise > delete > some you may have to "skip"

    * Run sfc scannow.

    SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

    *Now reset Windows updates.

    How do I reset Windows Update components?

    * Run the System Update Readiness Tool:

    Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 (KB947821) [August 2011]

    * FYI.

    Steps to follow before you install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 from the Microsoft Download Center

    Then try 1 update at a time > Reboot >check that it is installed properly before trying another. Suggest you start with SP1.
