Windows 7: always getting failed updates, shows error code 80070057

16 Nov 2011   #11

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

It could be a stuck MSI installer. Open a command prompt and run as administrator. type
reg delete HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftSQMClient WindowsDisabledSessions /va /f using copy/paste then hit enter, close command prompt and reboot. Now try the updates again.
I'm sorry roadrunner, but that command is invalid maybe something is missing with that command

i'm sorry because i dont have a dvd of windows 7 of my own because this windows version is OEM, and unfortunately i dont have a system restore points to the state where there is no problem with windows update. and i am in INDONESIA.

I have tried about your solution, but when it comes to SFC part where i have to put sfc /scannow command on cmd, it only runs to 12% then it says windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation

Try running the CheckSUR tool - it may be able to repair the system enough to get SFC running properly.
