    Lost Windows 7 (Vaio)

    Hello,

I have a almost new Sony vaio laptop. The HDD gave up and died. I didn't receive any windows cd-s with it, it was all preinstalled from Sony store. All I have left is the authenticity sticker in the back of my laptop. So I bought a new HDD and i need to install windows now. Where do I get another windows 7 to install and make it genuine with my product key?

    Thanks.

is it under Warranty ? if so i'd take it back and have them fix it for you.
other then that you'll have to buy a new copy of windows.

    I agree with scrooge.

If under warranty get it replaced (my preferrence) or fixed.
Is it not possible to get hold of an OEM disk from a kind
retailer and use the product key from the mentioned sticker scrooge?
I would try that first before purchasing a new OS disk.

I was just wondering why they don't give you a copy of the windows? I already have paid for it. I dont know how exactly works. Where does the store gets the OS, or it comes from the manufacturer, my case Sony?
Maybe I can ask Sony to provide me a OS backup disk?

You can download legitimate Windows 7 .iso images and burn them to DVD, then install with your product key.
We're not allowed to provide links here, but a Google search for MyDigitalLife will set you in the right direction.

There's no need to actually pay for another license, that would be a waste of money...

As far as I know, this is OK to mention - if against all expectations I'm wrong, I'll get my punishment soon enough. (Yikes!)

But the MDL downloads are actually regarded as safe and "untouched".

Corazon is right. These are official iso-s and without the proper key and validate it wont work. I do not see a reason this to be illegal.
