    Updates Upon Shutdown

I only use my laptop once in a while. I do want to keep the Windows Updates current, but I don't want to spend a lot of time having them DL everytime I use the PC. I have the setting marked as "Check for Updates but let me choose whether to download and install them". When I go to Shutdown there is an "Exclamation Point" on the Shutdown Bar that tells me the Updates will load when I am shutting down. I don't always have time to wait and would prefer to DL the updates when I have time. Is there anyway I can stop the Updates from loading when I Shutdown? Thanks,

    Hello Jim,

You might see if disabling the option in the tutorial below may be able to help stop the updates from installing at shutdown. It's the same in Windows 7. :)

Actually, that sounds to me like you still had updates already downloaded/installed that still needed a reboot to complete installation for good.

The "notify me but let me choose what to download/install" setting would only apply to new updates discovered by Windows Update.

I'm pretty sure things simply crossed over here and everything will be good after a restart. :)

I want to thank both Brink and Corazon. I am on my lapton this morning and even though I have been notified I have updates to install, there is no notice that I have to install when I shut down. Thanks very much.
