Windows Updates fail - Error Codes: 80070643 and 8024200D

    Good Afternoon!

I have a problem I am struggling with. I have had problems with failed Windows Updates for the past 3 months or so. I started a forum on answers.microsoft but this hasn't help - yet (the link is here Windows Updates fail - Error Codes: 80070643 and 8024200D - Microsoft Answers)

Short background - I tried the windows update troubleshooter and it did not work. I tried to perform a clean boot and install the updates, it also did not work. I was able to successfully install a few updates to the .NET Framework by completely un-installing it and then re-installing it (and double checking that it installed properly).

At the moment I have 17 updates that fail to install and they pretty much all deal with microsoft office 2010. The only two not related to microsoft office are:

    Update for Windows 7 (KB2545698)
    Update for Windows 7 (KB2547666)

I don't know what else to do and would really appreciate any help anyone could give me. I currently have Windows 7 Professional x64. I bought the computer in March of this year and have not made any major changes. The only updates I have are from Windows Updates and the last time they successfully installed (besides the .NET Framework I just fixed) was 21/10/11 and it was a hotfix for windows (KB2482122) problems really started around 19/07/2011 (more than a few updates failed).

    Thanks everyone for your help!

    Hello KDog,

Have just read through your post & referred to the "Microsoft Answers" link you gave.
The advice you received there is highly likely what you would get here.

Troubleshooting steps can be lengthy with little return in a situation like this.
We have had update problems here at the Forum where numerous pages of help / advice has been given with no positive outcome.

Please refer to the following 2 tutorials & see what you think.

    Repair Install

    Clean Install Windows 7

Have you a System Backup prior to your current set of problems?

Have you a windows 7 Disk?

Alternatively you could seek Microsoft Tech's Support.
I believe the email service is free.

I'm in the same situation as you KDog, only I've been through it all before. I did a repair install from cd which solved the problem. I'm reluctant to do it again, as it's quite a lengthy process.

Only thing I can ask is are you sure your copy of office 2008 is genuine?

Thank you JHM, I will look into your suggestions and see if they will help.

Dell1545, it is quite frustrating isn't it???
I have office 2010 and I am sure it is genuine. I bought the disc from a computer store, and by the cost, I would be quite upset if it wasn't! I think I will do what you suggest, repair install from the CD.

Thanks for your help, I am hoping eventually it will be solved!
