    Activation Problems

    Hey guys!

This is my first post on the forums and unfortunately it's not a good one. I removed the watermark on Windows 7 Ultimate RC Build 7100 and it stayed away for a month or two. But whenever I went into System Properties it used to say Not Available (See System Properties Activation.jpg in attachments).
But since a week ago a watermark came back but it was saying Windows Is Not Genuine (See Capture.jpg in attachments). And everytime I log on the screen goes black and a pop-up appears saying You may be a victim of Software Counterfeiting. And everytime I open a Windows-Included program like NotePad, Paint etc., A pop-up Appears saying To use this feature without interruption get Genuine Windows. And I used a Genuine RC Product key from Microsoft. Any help?

Similar problems have been reported by others (maybe you should try searching before posting) this response in another thread might help you...

Antman is right, there are numerous reports of Watermark Removal tools causing Windows to become non-genuine. The best option is to run Command Prompt as administrator then type SFC /SCANNOW as this will revert all system files to their default state. You should then be able to activate the RC through normal channels.

    Hope this helps :)

    Welcome to the 7forums!

Personally I would suggest to rather do a clean install of the RC, and to leave the watermark there.

Or download and install one of the leaked versions of the RTM (Just make sure the hashes are correct). That wil give you 4 months of use. (rearming). And no watermark.

You removed that watermark, doing that messed with the system in some way. Should have just left it alone.

You cracked the OS. Don't crack the OS. Run the OS uncracked.

    Cracked OS = issues.

    I'm all Cracked out now.

The key is expired mate. Go for a clean install.

And I'd rather not go for the clean install as I have a lot of stuff on this system and Windows 7 is the only OS on it!

Well then just do a repair/upgrade install. That will keep your apps, data and most of your settings, and while you're at it, might be a good idea to upgrade to the RTM build. (Yes, it can be done, see: Engineering Windows 7 : Delivering a quality upgrade experience).

An upgrade install to the RTM build worked great for me. The standard clean install advice, is, imo, a bit outdated. Yes, a clean install is always arguably the best or better, but W7 is much better at doing upgrade installs than any of the previous incarnations of Windows. I would give it a try. You just might be delighted with the results, as I was (after a few minor tweaks and adjustments that took less than 30 minutes). Worst case, you're not satisfied with the results and still have the option to clean install anyway.
