    Acer - Display - ACER S271HL update on Compaq Presario CQ56 64-Bit

    Hi all,
I have a Compaq Presario CQ56 64-Bit (Windows 7 Home Premium) laptop that I bought before the summer, today a Windows Update has given me an Acer display update published on the 28/12/2011. I thought because I had my vga cable plugged into the TV Windows Update may have become confused but despite checking for updates again it still appears there as optional.

AMD/ATI is recognized by Windows and Windows Update and there had already been a display driver update not so long ago, so I cannnot understand why I'm receiving an update for the wrong machine?

Not actually for AMD/ATI almost monthly you can see a newer update become available and that's why you will see one listed as an optional hardware update for the integrated graphic chips on the laptop.

Since Windows detects the tv you are using as an external monitor that also becomes a detected hardware. If that happens to be an Acer brand tv that would explain why that particular update came about.

I have received the same update and I have never had a TV or any ACER monitor connected to my system.
    I just hid the update.

There have been several newer driver updates only! note for the video card I refuse to install. Once you install an updated set of drivers the app side is trashed forcing you to reinstall everything all over as far as the video card is concerned regardless of being ATI or NVidia. Drivers and app have to match!

One of the best tools you can go with for insuring you are updated on everything is the Secunia Personal Software Inspector found at Free Computer Security - Personal Software Inspector (PSI) - Secunia

Another thing you can do to simplify things even more is simply set the check for updates to manual instead of leaving it at automatic. Once you click the check for.., button you can pick and choose which ones will be downloaded and installed. Many opt for this when a particular update causes problems to avoid seeing it automatically installed.

I got the same Update, I think it is being shown because I am using an HDTV as a display device. Although it is a Hitachi, it SHOWS UP as the Acer Display. The Acer Display must be a Large Scale Monitor- You can check at NewEgg.com, they have a dozen or so Large Scale Monitors, no TV tuner just HDMI and VGA inputs - And I think one of them was the same Acer model. So, I would not worry about it, if the output to your HD Device gets fouled up, just revert the driver back the the original driver in Device Mangler.
