Something is definitely wrong. It will be interesting to see how windows runs once the update is complete........if it completes.
Is it updating or installing the update? Getting lost.

at last at last!!!!!!i woke up this morning 8:30 melbourne time and the installs were done!!!im so releived..im getting those settings done in the control panel, never to download or install again.im afraid if i ever try to update the same thing will happen,so never again another update!
thanks for all the help guys!
Don't set it to never download updates. That's asking for trouble.
Set it so it alerts you of available updates BUT you pick which ones to download. That way you can do it one at a time if needed.
Good to hear you are back in action. Is windows running OK?
Hi hip
yes so far so good,i arranged it to download but ill oick what to update etc etc.
im so lucky cant beleive i got out of this mess.almost 2 days od updating, hope those updates were worth all the trouble.
Cheers
hey dudes!how are you all btw?
a wierd thing happened today, allthough i set the:set to Download But Let me Choose When (or if) to Install.
as i turned off my laptop, its started to do the installation of updates again!!!!!how can this be?it disregarded the settings, seems like the laptop takes control of it self!
If you selected "Download updates but let me choose when to install", that's exactly what will happen. Updates will automatically be downloaded to your machine. Theoretically, nothing will install until you give the go-ahead. Or, you could select "Notify me but don't automatically download or install." Again, technically all you should receive is a pop-up or other alert that new updates are available.
The reason I say "technically" is because Microsoft has a little exception to their rules.
Source: Microsoft Windows Update (see the section called Required Updates)Update Services are "turned on" if you choose one of the following settings: (i) install updates automatically, (ii) download updates automatically and choose whether to install them, or (iii) receive notifications about updates and choose whether to download and install them. Windows Update service is "turned on" and set to "install updates automatically" when you choose the recommended option during Windows Out Of Box Experience (OOBE) setup.
If you turn on the Update Services, regardless of which "turned on" setting you have chosen, required updates to some components of the service will be downloaded and installed automatically without further notice to you. If you would prefer not to receive required updates, turn off the Update Services.
Personally, I keep Update Services turned off and manually check for new updates about twice a week. With a brand new machine you may have to check for updates several times before all updates are finally downloaded and installed.
hello marsmimar.
im lucky these updates were concluded in a jiff like in 10min time.if you happen to read the previous posts,i got stuck on a 48hour updating hurricane!ill have to reset it to your:"Notify me but don't automatically download or install.
i did not get any warning message allthough ie got it to download, but let me choose etc etc...
i will look further into this matter.
thank you.
I sure did read thorugh all the problems you were having. Hopefully the worst is behind you and you'll be able to enjoy Windows 7. Hope you don't mind one bit of advice. Once you get your machine set up and it's running well, I strongly urge people to make a full system image to an external hard drive. It's an exact copy of your machine at the moment the image is made. All updates, personal settings, files, photos, music, movies, etc are copied and can be reinstalled in about an hour or less from that image. The more recent the image the better.
Sorry for the unasked for advice. :)
thanks 1000 for the advice mate, its for my best interest after all.the more i know the more safe are all my files.
Best regards.
Yes it will download updates, but you will have an option of which ones you want.
Then there are updates which get downloaded regardless of your setting which put a warning icon on the Start/Restart button which require you to shut down to install.
