What's your internet? Dialup? Broadband? Speed? Who is your ISP? Have you gone over your quota?

my screen is just blue with the circle thing going around and around, cant even turn off the laptop..took the ethernet
cable off the laptop and hooked it to my pc so i can post this message, and the updates are still showing on the laptop.

Don't let your system automatically windows update.
    1. Always look at updates and install the small files first.
    2. Then install the larger ones .....one at a time.

Newly purchased computers will have tons of updates and bloated software so when I purchase a new computer I
    1. Remove all bloated and trial software.
    2. Do a windows update like the above instructions.
    3. Go into msconfig and see what is listed under the "start up " tab as you want your system to start up smoothly and quickly.

These are just a few things I have done and have been very successful with a good running system.

I would say the dialup is your problem. Some of those updates are huge especially SP1. If you had someone close by with wireless you could get the updates in no time.

If it is saying that it is installing updates after all this time some thing is amiss. Has it made any more progress or just sitting there at the same percent?

thank you for the information mate.but what can i do for now, just let it do the updates, cos i really dont have a choice from what i see,its the blue screen stating the progress of the updates.so ill do what you stated 1000000% next time, cos this is frustrating.

You can choose that one or the one above to notify you before downloading.
That way you can look at what is being sent to download. More important the size of each file.
