Windows 7 update January 10 crashed operating system

Computer info - Laptop Sony Vaio Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

this Windows update on January 10 2012 installed on January 13 caused delays all day on the 14th during usage and then crashed the computer completely on the 15 th of January 2012. After about 4 chkdsk tries and about 20 other tries to correct I finally got to a command prompt and ran a chkdsk/R which allowed functionality again. I quickly backed up all work I knew was not saved since my last external drive save to flash drives successfully. Then all appeared okay and I confined to work on it fro about three hours and then it crashed again totally freezing the screen as it did in the first crash. This time however I cannot get back to any previous repair methods properly. it says I cannot do system restore due to a memory problem. I run the memory diagnostics and no problems are detected. I run the start up repair and it tries to restart and I get the black screen of death (BSOD). It will not start in any safe mode getting held up on class.pnp file and stopping there. I cannot get to any thing with normal windows start up the windows logo comes up and then flashes forever or eventually goes to BSOD. Last year SP 1 update disabled my computer 4 times in one month until a complete reboot clearing everything back to original factory settings and god forbid Vista was done. I only work part time right now and am on the road and this is killing me. Does anyone have a correction for this besides starting all over again as I do not have all of my disks with me to start over. Did anyone else get corrupted with this update also? Any forum help would be appreciated. Thanks!
