Non, I can't do anything at all. The screen is just BLACK after pressing on the turn on button. Nothing comes up at all. I can't even try to reinstall windows, because nothing appear after inserting to cd-rom.

Try disabling the display adapter in safe mode.
    Safe Mode
Why is my screen black when I start Windows 7?

As your spec's say LINUX, are you Dual Booting?
If yes, The best way to run Linux with Windows on one Hd drive.

I can't...the black screen comes up right after boot up, and when i hook it up to the external monitor the screen is so distorted that it is nearly impossible to click on anything. My husband told me that a friend of his ended up with the same problem after yesterdays updates.

Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit
       #10

We are having the same issue. After the latest Windows Updates (Jan 2012) were installed on our Toshiba Laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium, the PC will not boot. We only receive a black screen with a flashing dash (aka: the cursor) and the only other screen that will display is a boot menu. Does anyone know what is going on with this latest update?

Note that I also have a homemade PC (MSI mobo w/ AMD P6 CPU & 1 GB RAM) running Windows XP SP3 and I also had problems with this Windows Update on that machine on Wednesday (Jan 11, 2012). It locked the PC during download and then locked the PC _twice_ after installation trying to restart. After the second hard shutdown the PC came up ok and runs as expected (Thank God!).

Please someone tell us what is going on here!!!
