Important Update for Windows 7 keeps failing

    Hello,

Yesterday my laptop had an update for me, so I attempted to install it. However, when it was done I was told that the installation failed. I restarted the computer and attempted to install it again, but it still failed. I looked into more detail on what I was installing, which was Microsoft .NET Framework 4 KB2468871, and went to the site it was based on and attempted to install it from there. When the setup came up however, I recieved this message:

"KB2468871v2 does not apply, or is blocked by another condition on your computer."

I'm not entirely sure what this means, and since this is apparently an important update for my laptop, I ask if there is a way I can solve the problem (also it's getting irritating to have my laptop keep on reminding me to update something that fails to update).

    Thank you.

P.S. I don't know if this helps, but my laptop has Norton 360.

Norton may be blocking it, especially seeing this "KB2468871v2 does not apply, or is blocked by another condition on your computer."

So I followed the instructions you gave me to install it, and that helped get pass the "KB2468871v2 does not apply, or is blocked by another condition on your computer." message. But after it finished installing, it still said that the installation didn't work. I clicked the installation log and it gave me this:

I tried installing it again, this time turning of my Norton's Smart Firewall in case that might work. I still got the same problem.

As stated here, empty ALL temps then proceed Troubleshooting .NET Framework 4 Install failures - VarunGupta - Site Home - MSDN Blogs

Use TFC (Temp File Cleaner) by Old Timer TFC - Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer - Geeks to Go Forums save it to your desktop.
Save any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!
Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. If you are using Vista/Windows 7 right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator.
Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean.

TFC (Temp File Cleaner) will clear out all temp folders for all user accounts (temp, IE temp, java, FF, Opera, Chrome, Safari), including Administrator, All Users, LocalService, NetworkService, and any other accounts in the user folder. It also cleans out the %systemroot%\temp folder and checks for .tmp files in the %systemdrive% root folder, %systemroot%, and the system32 folder (both 32bit and 64bit on 64bit OSs). It shows the amount removed for each location found (in bytes) and the total removed (in MB). Before running, it will stop Explorer and all other running apps. When finished, a reboot is required... the user must reboot to finish clearing any in-use temp files.

Welcome to the forum, please start a new thread with the details of your problem that way you are more likely to get the help you need.

Posting at the end of a thread where the problem has been solved is likely to get you ignored as people have no need to come back so you wont have your problem solved.:)
