Old update. Never mind.

Not to spoil things - but that update has been out for a couple of years :)
Perhaps you recently installed a program using VC++ 2005 ??

I haven't installed any new programs lately. I didn't see the 2009.
This isn't a new install of Win 7. I've been running it about 18 months. Strange.
Oh well.
Hopalong X i want to thank you for posting this as i too got that update yet all other computers at work and at home did not so i thought something was up as i did not install anything recently.
I was even more perplexed when i realized it's such an old update. I checked and i got the 64bit version of this update way back, but did not get this 32bit one until now?
Anyway you're not alone.

Thanks for posting.
At least I know now I am not crazy.
Well not this time anyway.

MS may have changed the detection algorithm or something - I don't think that the update has itself been updated.
Yeah no recent update to the update itself.
Update: I've now come across an xp 32bit machine which required the update, as far as i can tell nothing has been installed on that machine for over a year? Outside updates. Well that blew my theory on it missing the 32bit version over having the 64 bit version installed.
If anyone's interested it's update KB973923 we are talking about, all of a sudden it installs after being available for years and seems to without any recent install to trigger it either.
