Accidentally shut down laptop during win 7 update

New laptop, it was shut down or closed during the update and now is frozen on the 7 of 8 screen and just hangs there. I cannot reboot and it did not come with a recovery disk. I can't get it to come off this screen at all. I tried shutting it off but an orange light flashes and when I turn it back on it's still on that screen. Since I have no recovery cd or repair CD what do I need to do? If I have to restore I really could care less as I don't have too much on it because it's new. Maybe some photos but whatever. I am so not computer savvy so I have no clue what I am doing. Can anyone tell me what I should do? Thank you in advance!

You likely have a recovery partition, even though you don't have recovery disks. You have to find a way to access it and that varies by brand, which we don't know. Probably an F key of some type.

What do you mean with 7 of 8 screen?

Your orange light flashing means that you have not really shut down the computer. You have put it in standby (not sleep) mode.

Press and hold the power button for several seconds. If it still will not shut all the way down, remove the battery and ac adapter.

This is not a good practice but at times, you have no other choice.

Install the battery, and connect the adapter.. then turn it on. I would suggest you let it boot into safe mode. Also, watch the screen as it boots. It will have an option for recovery mode if the drive has a recovery partition. On my HP, it is F11
