    Windows 7 Update/Software Issues

    Hi there,

Like others I have seen on the forum, my boyfriend is also encountering tumultuous error with his Windows updates today..

First of all, we noticed that all of his cookies were temporarily missing.. Account names were no longer stored, history, etc.. This lasted for a few hours this afternoon.. We checked around 4PM, and his cookies were restored. Currently, they are again missing..

Furthermore, some of his programs are unlisted or just gone entirely.. He noticed that some of his PDF files had blank icons suddenly.. After looking through his programs, he found that his Adobe Reader was gone entirely.

So, we figured, maybe he should update.. Usually when things go haywire in Windows 7, the problems are caused by a lack of a necessary update (in our experience at least)... However, as soon as he searches for updates, he encounters ERROR 800b0100..

What can we do? He is about to restore to factory settings.. Please help!

    Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Before he does that, ask him to download the System Updates Readiness Tool, which can help in situations such as his.

    Windows Update error 800B0100

Ask him to make sure he clicks the correct link for his version of Windows 7.

He might also want to consider an anti-virus scan by Malwarebytes, which many of us use.

    Please try as under.

    1. Go to the System Update Readiness Tool webpage (Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2). In the Information for advanced users section, find the version of Windows and system type of your computer, and then click the link to download and install the System Update Readiness Tool.

    2. Run Windows Update again.
