Who can I contact if my legal Windows 7 key is blocked from activation

I purchased my windows from digital river but because I have changed my computers hard drive multiple times, I had to reactivate it. It seems, Microsoft has blocked my key because of activating too many times. Who can I contact to get it unblocked?

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

You are screwed, to put it bluntly. Windows 7 no longer exists. I decided to re-install mine from an image made a year ago, and it failed the Microsoft Activation as having an invalid key, even though it is the original paid-for key. I called Microsoft, and they said they could not help because their "support" has finished, and they won't lift a finger to re-activate the key.

I will run the PC offline from now on, and take it to the dump when the C: drive next goes wallop.

I think I'll go for Ubuntu next time.

If you'd care to post the MGADiag report, we may be able to fix your problem.

Hi Noel,

Well I must say I didn't expect any help on such an ancient OS! My product key label says Windows Home Premium OA and there is a number X16-96072 and barcode #1: 15G29N005501 and barcode #2: 00196-169-596-009, I hope this is what you were looking for. There is also the Product key, a bit battered, with a "B" or an "8" which I can't be sure of.

The Microsoft guy (whose English I found desperately hard to understand) basically said, tough, we can't access anything for Windows 7 even if we wanted to.

The history is that the C: drive died about 18 months ago, and I re-activated Windows 7 Ok at the time. I've forgotten exactly how. As I lost the original repair CD at the time, I cloned the C: drive onto a bootable USB stick a few weeks ago (must have deja vu) as an ISO file in case of future emergencies.

The PC started acting up 2 weeks ago, and I came to the conclusion that the OS was in difficulty, so I thought I'd be very smart and reload using the stick, which worked a treat, until the activation threats started to come in.

Cheers

Hi Noel,

Just looking at the last few bits of the product key in the Diagnostic report, it's not the same as the one on the label.

Now I think of it, it is possible that somehow Microsoft gave me a new product key ~ 2-1/2 years ago when my C: drive got fired.

If so, it would explain why the key from the label doesn't work.

I hope I'm not exasperating you! As you might guess from my remark about Ubuntu, I've just about had it with Microsoft and their lack of interest in older systems. A friend of mine in Cork was cutting out sails for yachts using an Apple 2 he bought about 25 years ago, and was still getting some support from them up until a couple of years ago.
