Am I screwed? (SP1 Disappeared after system restore)

Okay, so I installed SP1 because my computer prompted to do so for it was an "Important update" and after it's finally installed my computer became tremendously slow and my CPU Usage was maxed. Panicked, I used the system restore that was created from the update and not only did my CPU Usage not change but SP1 was gone, although the changes it made are still there.

There's not even an option to install SP1 again in windows update. I checked the history and it says it was installed but when I checked for installed updates it's gone.

Here's a screenshot of the update list. I installed the pack on 5/1/12.

So am I doomed? Or is there still hope? Is SP1 Gone forever?

WIN | type WINVER | ENTER

Look at about the 2nd line, does it say SP1?

WIN= key with microsoft logo on top.

Either right click on Computer Properties or reach it via Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System to find out whether SP1 is there or gone.

Almost every User is with SP1 without any problem, so it should not be causing problems on your Computer. I am doubtful whether System Restore would remove SP1 but a restore from an earlier image would.

Is this a bad thing? Did I mess everything up by system restoring? I know that SP1 patches system files also, so I think its safe to say those are intact.

Before the update my computer speed was blazing fast. The usage never rised above 40% but now within 10 minutes or so it spikes up randomly to 70%-100%.

What can I do to fix this?

Contrary to what I had thought, System Restore has been able to remove SP1. Please read the tutorial Optimize Windows 7 and implement the suggestions made in it to the extent possible. This might improve matters.

I tried some of those things but it doesn't appear to be working for me. The CPU Usage still spikes to 100% since the update. And I don't even have the update anymore. Would it help if I just installed SP1 again somehow? It might fix things but I'm not sure.

What confuses me is that when I system restored to before the update was installed, my computer should resume to it's previous state, that means it should have restored to normal when it was fast.

Why is there a significant change in CPU usage after the update? Although, the update isn't present in my system anymore? Help! I really want things to return to the way things were and when everything ran perfectly and smoothly. SP1 ruined my life.

You may download SP1 and try to re-install it. That might help matters so please do try out.

However if you want to return your computer to its original state then you should perhaps clean install Windows 7 and make an image of your System Volume Drive (C) after that.

So would it be wise for me to create a restore point before I install SP1 again?

For some reason, SP1 erased all of my previous restore points and I want to be able to use it in case SP1 becomes glitchy again.

Actually I have read MANY instances of SP1 causing issues with slowdowns and other issues.

    niwa,
    100% update your computer.
    1. update the bios
    2. update the motherboard chipset driver
    3. update other drivers supplied from the mfg's website.

    4. 100% update Win 7. Use this procedure.

    UPDATING YOUR WIN 7
ASSURE THAT YOU RECEIVE ALL UPDATES
WIN | type WINDOWS UPDATE | ENTER |
    Change settings (left-hand column) |
checkmark all four of the boxes | OK
    button

Approve any dialog boxes presented. Let Windows install any update features.

WIN is the key with the Microsoft flag on top.

    INSTALL CRITICAL UPDATES
    Check for Updates
    (left-hand column)
    Install ALL critical updates.
Restart your computer (even if not prompted)

Repeat this procedure until there are no more critical updates.

DO NOT TRUST the “Windows is up to date” in center of dialog. until you see that TWICE IN A ROW!

    INSTALL IMPORTANT UPDATES
Use the “critical update” procedure until all important updates are installed.

    INSTALL OPTIONAL UPDATES
Use the “critical update” procedure until all optional updates are installed.

Under Optional updates you will be presented with a list of about 34 language updates.
You can hide those updates so that aren't continually notified of those updates. When you click on 34 optional updates are available, then you
    a) highlight all of the language updates,
    b) right-click anywhere in the highlighted list.
    c) click on Hide Updates,
    d) OK button.

    UPDATE GOLDEN RULES

    Install ALL, yes, ALL updates.
This is Win 7 and not Vista or XP (eXPired).

    UPDATE IS HUNG –TAKING FOREVER
Hung is very doubtful unless you interrupted updates.

CTRL + SHIFT + ESC key combo will pop-up the Task Manager.
Lo and behold, Windows Update is still running!

You hold down the CTRL and SHIFT keys.
While holding them down, tap the ESC key once.
