Periodic "Windows 7 Build 7601 This version of windows is not genuine"

I bought a floor-model of a Toshiba Laptop (from Office Depot-- it's definitely genuine), specs in my info, and the first day I get it, I immediately begin uninstalling bloatware, turning off unnecessary services, and optimizing, as I have done with every one of my laptops.
However, after I finish my tune-ups, I restart the computer, and this message appears in the bottom right corner.

Following the suggestions in other threads, I tried to rebuild the Licensing Store, but after entering slui.exe, I was given a window that said the key that was entered (I assume that's the one that was pre-installed) could not be validated, and that I could enter a new product code. I enter the one on the bottom of the laptop, and it says it's not a valid code. That's what I expected, as this was a floor model, not a full separate Windows license, but what can I do?

Also, slightly separate issues, but when I click "Contact Toshiba for Assistance", the windows troubleshooting window appears, but instantly closes, without displaying anything.
And also, when I start the computer, I often get something along the lines of "....... casdh.dll could not be started."
I don't know what the dll is for, but obviously, something is wrong.

    Thanks for your time

Welcome to the Seven Forums, Kagamiseki.

My suggestion is that you revert to the original key that came preinstalled. Then phone up Microsoft and explain the matter that you have stated to them. They shall help you in activating the OS.

To the best of my knowledge this procedure has never failed in getting the OS activated if the Key was genuine.

    Thank you, Wanchoo.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean by "revert".
Also, the key that came preinstalled hasn't been changed. I tried to put in the product key on the bottom, but it said that it could not verify it, and made no changes.

Also, when I got the laptop, as far as I know, it was already activated.

Thanks for the suggestion to call microsoft, I hadn't thought of that.
I'll wait a day, and see if anybody else has a suggestion that might be able to resolve this without contacting microsoft-- if not, I'll try then.

Personally, if I was in your shoes, I'd be hot-footing it back to Office Depot to demand a refund or a genuine copy of Windows.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by a floor model ( I think we would call it a demonstrator) but regardless of what you were sold, it's not fit for purpose so the store should repair, replace or refund.

Even if the key is not genuine and you have bought it with proper receipts and all you should still phone Microsoft and report the matter to them. Microsoft welcome such reports that may net pirates.

I thought that you had changed the key so I said revert. If the original is still there then that was the key that I meant. And if the OS was activated when you purchased it with that key then it was most likely genuine.

My impression is that floor models once sold shall not be taken back but I may be wrong.

Your report indicates that you have not yet activated the OEM_SLP Key you are currently using.
As far as I can tell there is no other problem.

However - you mention 'tuneups' - and that worries me, as it covers a multitiude of sins, including the ill-advised use of registry 'cleaners'. If you are using such, stop NOW!.

To activate your system you will need to use telephone activation.

    telephone activation (operator
    calls)
    Click on the Start button
    in the Search
    box, type
    SLUI 4
    and hit the Enter key
    follow the instructions - but
when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply -
this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

By "tune-ups", I mean uninstalling bloatware, changing visuals settings, disabling services, defragging, removing unneeded start-up programs, and making a couple registry tweaks, to increase the computer's response speed.

I do use a registry cleaner, but I don't allow it to make any changes-- I take the list it spouts out, and if a key belongs to a program I just uninstalled, I delete it manually.

When I run SLUI 4, I don't get any directions, just this:

Clicking "Contact Toshiba" gives me a very general and unhelpful Help window.

OK - in that case, the Licensing Store may be corrupt.
    Recreate the Licensing Store
    1) Click Start button.
    2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
    3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
    4) Type: net stop sppsvc (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, this is ok.
    5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
    6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    8) Type: net start sppsvc
    9) Type: slui.exe
    10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear. You will be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product Key - enter the Key from your sticker, and wait for activation to complete, or a full error message which you should quote in full.

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

[edit - re-reading yyour report, I see that the Key in use was the OEM_SLP Key, which explains why the activaiton option wasn't available, and if I'd realised it, I would have started with the recreation of the store anyhow!)

Like I said in my opening post, I tried this already.
I did it again though, in case anything changed.

It failed to rename tokens.dat to tokens.bar, because tokens.bar already existed (probably from the first time I did it)
So I manually renamed it to tokens.dat1, and continued, turning sppsvc back on and starting SLUI.exe

There same window from my previous post came up, and I clicked "Enter another key"
After entering the key on the sticker (labelled "Product Key"--there can be no mistake)
I was given an error, shown in this screenshot

In case I had typed it wrong, I tried again, with the same results. MGADiag report is exactly the same as above.

    [Edit]
Anticipating a possible later inquiry, I took a screenie of the services I disabled.
I don't remember disabling anything that was essential, but I might have still made a mistake here, or my hand might have slipped as I was going through the list.

In that case, you are almost certainly mis-reading the Key from the sticker - probably swithcing an 8 for a B (or vice-versa). double-check using a magnifier and a bright light.
