Without wanting to be the "5th player in a String Quartet" I would actually question this.

Some European Universities are just as equal to any in the US such as U.M.I.S.T in England (Manchester), Oxford / Cambridge both in the UK, University of LEIDEN in Holland etc.

No one is decrying the great stuff US universities offer but don't be so Nationalistic -- there's a lot of great institutions OUTSIDE the US that also offer great training.

Without the Rutherford Laboratory in Cambridge UK the US wouldn't have even got their Nuclear program off the ground.

No comment here on whether it SHOULD have been able to continue -- WWII and the Cold War threw up different political agendas than we have today.

Once you start thinking about "Micky Mouse subjects" like MBA's or "Media studies" then of course all bets are off -- who actually NEEDS an MBA -- if you can't understand how business works by the time you want to enter UNI you probably never will.

US institutions are also great --M.I.T for example but you can't make generalisations here and as we finally come out of recession we need to create products that we can SELL -- no more 1000,s of dollars of debt funding the economy.

Cheers (from an Old Fashioned Engineer who was involved in processes where we actually used to MAKE sellable products).

Cheers
jimbo

At least he wasn't afraid to release his academic records...oh and it was superior to that of the first buffoon he defeated.

OTOH #42 was a Rhodes scholar...so much for overseas educations.

I suggest that we not get into a political discussion or president bashing on this site.

Yes, it never ends well; it's also mentioned in rule #3.

No but at least we can spell "generalizations"...as well as other words like color, organization, honor, aluminum, etc. .

As GBS once said "England and America are two countries separated by the same language."

...And you're correct about foreign universities. There are great schools in many nations.
