how to install Windows updates in bulk?

Hello,

This is my first post on here so I apologize if this has been asked already. I work for a company that makes tablets that have windows 7 professional x32 installed. At times we have to re-image the tablet. The image does not include any windows 7 updates on it and as were kinda low on the totem pole I don't see that being changed any time soon for our convenience. Me and some of the other Techs working in the shop were looking for a way to install all the windows 7 updates at one time without having to monitor it all day long constantly restarting between updates. It can sometimes take a full 8 hour day to get all the updates installed on one tablet because we are not able to monitor them at all times so there is a lot of down time of it waiting to restart.

Basically what I am asking is there a way to put all windows 7 updates on a flash drive or a program online that will automate the windows update process with a fresh install of windows 7?

You might be able to accomplish what you want with Sysprep. Or an advanced type of slipstreaming. Or see the suggestions in a prevous Seven Forums thread.

I think Sysprep may be the way to go but there's also WuInstall

I don't know if it'll work for you but you might be able to create a batch file that runs on boot up with the required cmd line. Check the documentation in particular the Reboot / Shutdown Options and Caching Options.

Not sure about the Licensing stuff or price but you will need the Pro version for these functions but there is a trial to see if it can do what you want first.

EDIT: Forgot to say you will need to set the tablet to auto login to automate the process.

EDIT: Just read it has a /rebootcycle switch which may be better than a batch file and may or may not require login.

I really appreciate your help marsmimar, but it appears all those links are guides to creating a new windows 7 image which includes all the updates. Unfortunatly the image that is loaded onto the tablet is owned by another company and legally we can not alter that image. What I really need is just something to automate the actual update process on a system already loaded with windows 7 or at least speed it up. I doubt there is anything that will do what im looking for though

Another thing I should mention about WuInstall and the cache options is that it does not have to be a network location, it should work fine for a local folder.
