Try this. I had the same problem and it worked for me

Go to Administrative Tools/Services, and stop the Windows Update service. Then go to the folder c:/Windows/SoftwareDistribution and delete all of the files and folders. Then go back to Services and restart the Windows Update service which will recreate all of those folders again. Then manually run the Update Service and everything should work.
This worked perfectly for me. I'm now installing 255MB worth of missing updates.

    Thanks a lot!

Do you know how to "manually run the update service", because I have followed the other instructions and it still isn't working.

    Thanks

SWAssociates solution was what fixed my issue on my Dell Studio15. Tried turning off/on services and the reboots and all...no joy. BUT...I copied the folder to another location and renamed it before deleting the contents "just in case". Thanks for the hand from FedWay!

I'm having this same issue but it only appeared after replacing my hard drive with a new one. I restored an image of the old drive, that was working at the time, and everything else works except this dang Windows Update. Can someone give me a link to the Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers? I tried the one at the beginning of this thread but it's no longer valid.

I've tried just about everything else I could find on these forums and in this thread but I am still having the problem.

    Thank you much!

    NoelDP,

Thank you very much! Downloading the latest Intel RST RAID driver fixed my problem! I've been pulling my hair out for a couple of days on this issue. I owe you a pint mate.
