    KB2667402 kills RDP (again)

    Running Windows 7 Professional, SP1 - 64 bit
Installing the new, (supposedly compatible with SP1) June version of KB2667402 breaks RDP - i.e. the service fails to load properly and the computer is not listening on port 3389 for RDP connections. This has happened on several of our computers - but not all. Don't yet know why some and not others (we're all running Win7 Pro, SP1).

    What I know so far:
Installing the update reports that it installed correctly - but it lies. ;-)

The Setup log contains an error message:
Windows update could not be installed because of error 2359302 "" (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\Downloads\Windows6.1-KB2667402-v2-x64.msu" ")

The TerminalServices-LocalSessionManager/Operational log contains Error 17:
Remote Desktop Service start failed. The relevant status code was 0x800706b5.

At this point, the computer is not accepting RDP connections, and is not listening on port 3389. Running "sfc /scannow" reports that it is repairing corrupted files:

Repairing corrupted file [ml:520{260},l:46{23}]"\??\C:\Windows\System32"\[l:30{15}]"rdpcorekmts.dll" from store
Repairing corrupted file [ml:520{260},l:46{23}]"\??\C:\Windows\System32"\[l:20{10}]"rdpwsx.dll" from store

But stopping and restarting the RDP service has no effect: There is no listener on port 3389 and (not surprisingly) no RDP connections can be made to my computer.

The upshot is that the only way I can get RDP to work is to remove KB2667402 and restart the RDP service.

Any ideas on what might be happening and how to get KB2667402 onto this system?

    Thanks,
    Steve G.

EDIT:: I forgot to mention that we're running 64 bit Windows 7

I am having the same problem on my Win7-64 Professional SP1 box. This is also my media center, so RDP being down also means no extenders can connect. You would think this would have been sorted out.

I'm removing the patch and disabling updates for the moment, but I'll be watching the thread and post if I can get it applied properly.

    More Details

I should mention that when I went through the installation log for KB2667402, that the previous (March) version was apparently already installed, and RDP was working just fine.
