    Bing Desktop

About three weeks ago I installed some MS updates. One of them was something about Bing, I was tired of looking at the update. After doing the update my desktop screen became a blue semi circle water scene wallpaper with fish and a large word BING in the lower right corner. I have been advised to go to the Control Panel - Programs and Features and uninstall the Bing Desktop item. I have no Bing Desktop item there so could not remove it. I was told to right click on the desktop and select Personalize and select a new Theme. I have also done this and when I select a new theme it simply ignores me. What can I do to get rid of the Bing desktop wallpaper and regain control of my desktop environment?

Hello gvdpal, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you like, you could run C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\BingDesktop\BingDesktop.exe to set it no longer run at startup or change your background so you can use your own theme.

Normally you should have Bing Desktop listed in Programs and Features like below to click on to uninstall.

If you are unable to uninstall Bing Desktop, then you could also do a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before you installed it to undo it.

After it's uninstalled, you could use the tutorial to hide the Bing Desktop update so that it will no longer show in Windows Update.
    Hope this helps, :)

Thanks Brink. I followed your leads but at C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\BingDesktop\BingDesktop.exe my machine did not have anything about BING. Also, there was nothing in programs and features that referred to BING. My restore dates did not go back far enough to precede the install. So I started playing with the desktop personalization. I cannot tell you exactly what I did but suddenly the BING screen was gone and I could change my wallpaper. My taskbar now has a different color scheme and my sounds are different from what they were but I will get a handle on that as well. Again, thanks for your help.

In the future if you're tired of looking at a certain update you don't want. Right click and hide update.
