    Strange FREE UpGrade needs Activation

    Holy BatCrap

I fired up the old Pent-III 600mhz x86 box earlier to update the AVG antivirus, since it had not been turned on in about 30 days.

I got so involved downloading Captain Zero's HD WallPapers & browsing the threads today, that I had forgot it was running in the other room. When I went over to it, the screen says need to be activated. Wait a minute, this was RC 7229 x86. That should still be good until 2010 ? So I got out the trusty RC Key code, & typed it in. Clicked on activate. A few minutes go by, then not a valid key! What

So then I went to Start & typed in Winver 7600

Did Microsoft just update this RC Build 7229 ??

Not to be outdone by Microsoft, I just got out my legit list of TechNet keys & typed one in. Click on activate. Whoah this sure was slow, about 5 minutes

    Shaaaazaaammmmmm Activated

I guess The Future came Back to The Present !

Sorry, Doc. Telemetry error. Cockroachbots recalled for maintenance.

Please don't look behind the refrigerator. I'm sure we can fix that.

    Hey Doc,
I sure do like the story part about starting with 7229.
    Fits in with BTTF.
    Love it.

Technet is OK, little pricey for me so I bought my key off EBAY.

So wait.. MS is 'upgrading' RCs' to full retail versions? that preposterous! and downright maniacal, and further more it's shenanigans! .... and also a little odd.
    hmm...
if that is the case Doc, if that is your real name , doesnt that mean that MS has gone back on there statement that the RC's will be good till next March?

I am not BS'ing . This did this on it's own on two of my computers, a x86 & a x64 with build 7229 on them. I have a valid TechNet subscription with valid keys. But these two computers did this on their own while connected to the internet overnite on different days. I did not run any new upgrade from a DVD, USB, etc.

I wonder if anybody else has had this happen, as of yet. Build 7229
