    Restart Your Computer To Finish Installng Important Updates Probs


    I've tried every reg hack and policy edit I could find but i cannot disable the windows update dialog box: Restart Your Computer To Finish Installng Important Updates.

    This setting is driving me mad! I want it to go away as I am usually in the middle of something very important when it pops up.

    NOTE: It's NOT stuck in a loop. I just want it to NOT prompt me after an update. I reboot each day.

    NOTE 2: I know that disabling the windows update service gets rid of the message. That's not what I'm looking for. I want the dialog box to be extinguished forever.

    So far, I've done both of these things:

    Policy Editor:

    • No Auto-Restart with logged on users for Scheduled automatic updates installations = Enabled
    • Re-prompt for restart with sceheduled installations - Enabled (Delay set to 1440 minutes)
    • Delay Restart for scheduled installations = Enabled



    Registry:

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\ForcedReboot = 0



    None of this has ANY effect. As soon as a new update is installed it prompts me anyway.


    PLEASE help. I'm desperate for a solution and I'm not finding anything on any forums. They just post the same edits I've listed above which are not working.



    I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate which has all important and critical patches installed.

    Hi jimerb,

    I don't know how to stop the the box from popping up after an update.

    You might consider manually updating. I have always manually updated rather than set to auto because I like to see what it being installed before hand. If you choose to manually update just check on the second Tuesday every month (more often if you'd like) for any updates. It's a little more hassle but when you do it like that at least you won't be in the middle of something very important when it wants to reboot.

    Sorry for not directly answering your question, but doing it this way you won't be interrupted if/when it needs to reboot. That seemed to be the biggest problem you're having and this will fix it.
