Surprise, surprise, Technet Downloads Aren't Genuine??

Imagine my surprise this morning when booting into my Technet provided Windows 7 RTM to get a pop-up telling me that my Windows may not be genuine.

Unfortunately one can't validate it until after October 22 as the WGA verification hasn't yet been updated.

I guess I shall have to grin and bear it?

Windows is activated OK and updates are coming in as usual so I wonder what suddenly triggered that? It's the first time I've ever seen it actually.

I have seen it once before and in that case the system clock was fubared. Simply setting the system clock (it was off by 6 months) fix the WGA and random networking connectivity problems

    Go figure

Well I checked that and it looked OK but just to be safe I re-synch'd. Rebooted and it didn't happen again, so who knows?

    Thanks.

I had an issue too recently when I was installing a second hard drive in my computer to build a "hackintosh" play area....I moved my DVD drive from SATA6 to SATA0 and moved my Windows Drive from SATA1 to SATA2 and when I booted Windows it came up and told me it was non-genuine. This was using the RC release with the valid key that I got and activated. There was a button to press which was to get a genuine copy and when pressed, it came right back and said...your copy is activated and is genuine.

So, it can be a bit strange at times...no doubt about that.

LOL...I guess it was having a mood. These things are sent to try us, or make life interesting, depending on ones viewpoint.

I've had several verisons of Vista pop-up asking me to reactivate, when I've swapped some hardware, but never have I seen a message about being non-genuine due to hardware. Most of my licenses are from TechNet as well.

The strange thing is there was no hardware change here at all, I multi-boot and simply decided to boot up Windows 7.

After adding a Linux install on a seperate partition I got a watermark on my Technet Win 7 install upon rebooting. I removed it but seems strange that it would do that. Maybe it was something to do with grub
