Basically i had a problem where when i first got my new computer windows updates worked perfect....I usually checked what was installed and downloaded. then a couple days later it just stopped workin....got error code 80080005 ( acsess denied?) I searched and tried soooo many darn things and nothing worked, went through cmd tried downloading tools to help and nothing,. All the troubleshooting advise for my system didnt help. I FINALLY just said the hell wi it and restored to factory settings and that worked excellent, now today im here typing this in confidence that im updated properly and it feels safer. Anyway, idk what was wrong and id still like to know but i know it didnt have anything to do with my FW or AVS. my advise is to just restore to factory settings, thats if you have that option. im still learning about new things with computers so all that searching for answers was usefull in learning things to try to help others but it didnt work for me until i just restored it. was that wrong to do?

Hello Adam and welcome to the forums

We usually use a clean install as more of a last resort because a lot of these errors can be fixed :)

In my opinion, the first point of call should be the System Update Readiness Tool:

System Update Readiness Tool fixes Windows Update errors in Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008

Although it isn't great at automatically fixing problems, it is an excellent diagnostics tool and the log can be found here:

    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

It takes a while to learn how to fix the various errors found in these logs, but the majority of them can be fixed without doing a clean install.
