Some updates were not installed, Windows Update Error Code: 800704B3

Last successful update was on 15/07/2012, since then I didn’t turn on my netbook. 3 days ago I turned it on and had 11 important updates waiting to be installed. All failed over and over again. Been trying to solve this issue for 3 days and have done the following to no avail. Search box typed run and then entered msiexec /unregister , then msiexec /regserver
    1. In Services, Windows Installer, already set to manual, clicked on start and received following pop up error, Windows could not start the Windows Installer Service on Local Computer. Error 5: Access Denied.
    2. Changed Permissions so that users and administrators have full control on all HKEYs.
    3. CMD: sfc /scannow – Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
    4. Saved on desktop Windows 7 msiserver.reg and double clicked on it.
    5. Downloaded registry repair software.
    6. In the HKEY_lOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/services/msiserver, deleted enum.
    7. And others I can’t remember.

I cannot do a fresh install of Windows 7 as I do not have the cd. It’s just me and the netbook, and no cds. Any help will be most certainly appreciated. I’m tired but don’t want to give up.

You've made some large mistakes, I'm afraid.
Is your Recvoery parttion still intact? - Check your manual for the Recovery procedures, and back up your data to external media as a precaution.

Then attempt a System Restore to before you attemtped to repair the system.

Then post an MGADiag report - I have a suspicion I know what the problem is, and that should onfirm it (or tell me I'm well off base!)

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

System Restore or back up not an option.

Ran the tool but couldn't copy the report you requested.

The error that sometimes appears when you click the copy button can be ignored - it simply means that the backup files could not be created on the disk. It will almost always still paste properly to your reply.

Sorry to hear that you could not copy the report.

What precisely is your problem? Do you not know how to copy and paste?

The errror set I was expecting isn't present - so we'll have to see what we can discover, and fix manually.

First, please run the standard system tests....

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

    At the Command prompt, type
    CHKDSK C: /R
    and hit the Enter key.

You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The chkdsk will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
    At the Command prompt, type
    SFC /SCANNOW
    and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

attattch a copy of the CBS.log file to your response - you'll have to copy it to the desktop first.

    Shut down your computer.
    Boot up into SafeMode.

Immediately go to a command prompt.
    enter following command:
    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

    Exit and reboot.

the file will be on your desktop.
