    Thanks Noel
After 1 pass of Memtest I had over 6000 errors so I called Crucial
They're sending me 4 new sticks to replace it.

So sometime early next week I should be able to get back in the saddle and diagnose the issue. I'll let you know when the memory is installed. Until then, the cpu is off (going to use my work laptop) to prevent more data corruption.

    Alright Noel
We're back up and running with brand new memory in my system

I'd love your advice on how to clean up any corruption that occurred due to the old memory before we get back into the meat of solving the "Not Genuine Issue"

I'm ready to fire on your command, just tell me what to do now.

First run SFC /SCANNOW and post the CBS.log file

Looks like there are corrupted files that the diagnostic couldn't repair
If you know any way to fix that short of wiping the hdd and re-installing Win, I'm all ears.

There's actually only one error there :)
Cannot verify component files for ntprint.inf, Version = 6.1.7601.17514, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type = [l:24{12}]"driverUpdate", TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral, manifest is damaged (FALSE)

Let's see if the CheckSUR tool can fix that.... (or find anything else)

Please run the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Method 2)

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your public SkyDrive so I can take a look - post a link in your reply.

The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.

I was thinking it was fairly quiet, actually (probably because of the rush to install Win8)

Great - that's fixed the problem that SFC found (I think!)
Now - what exactly are your symptoms now?
