Oh, B&GG%R!
I have to admit that this is where I'm going to have to try and pass the buck to someone else - hopefully they'll pick up the baton and run with it fairly quickly.
Back soon (after putting a message in a bottle...)....

ok :)
Thank you so much for your help!
Is someone going to follow up on this thread after you? Let me know if I have to do anything.
Thanks again.
Best,
Valerie
Hopefully you'll be descended upon by a number of people :)
I'll keep an eye out and do some research as well.
Hello elimak and welcome to the forums
Just had a read through this thread and thought of something that might be worth trying:
Run this command:
REG QUERY "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\VSS\Diag" /s > %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\tom982.txt
This will generate a file on your Desktop, tom982.txt, can you attach this to you next post please?
Tom

That's likely to overflow the buffers, Tom :)
It may be a good idea to lose the recursion, or output to a file?
Stupid mistake #2
I need the recursion because I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking for, lol.
That's enough mistakes for one day, time for bed.
Actually - I made the mistake :)
I was looking at the same Key in a default Vista x64 - and it's a LOT bigger there than it is in a default Win7 - in 7 I could get the full recursion for both ..001 and Current...
However, in my live system the key is positively huge.
Hi Jacee,
I got my copy of windows with my sony laptop when I bought it, 8 month ago.
Hi Tom982,
Shall I run your command
"REG QUERY "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\VSS\Diag" /s > %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\tom982.txt"
or is it not recommended?
Thank you for your help guys.
Valerie
