    Transfering to another computer

Is it a royal PITA to transfer Win7 to another computer? I have OEM Win7 64 and want to put it on a new build. Older computer will get Ubuntu installed. Would I have to call microsoft to do this? thanks.

    Hi,

OEM installations are tied to the original motherboard of the computer that they were installed on, so cannot be moved to a different computer.

There have been cases where, after a PC with an OEM installation died, people have pleaded with MS who have reactivated the OEM for a different computer - my understanding is the success of this is a bit of a lottery.

    Regards,

OK. Yes, that sounds like a system builders OEM you purchased. Is that correct?
