You should probably use XCOPY and copy the C:\Users\<accountnames> folder(s), at least - you can ignore the 'Default' and 'Default User'folder, as it should contain nothing of importance (and one of them is merely a junction).

What email client are you using? - check its archive folder, and copy that as well - some (such as Windows Mail and variants) hide the data within the Windows folder tree, rather than in the sensible place.

I did actually do a disk copy recently to clone a data drive that wouldn't do it any other way - it seems to have worked perfectly, as I'm using it now :)
    The command I used was
    robocopy <source> <dest> /S /COPYALL /NP /LOG:C:\robolog.txt /TEE
which creates a log file and shows the progress on-screen

That one (note the mods I made!) would copy ALL files from the source to the destination (and keep things like ownership intact)
IF your destination is drive X:\
    then
    robocopy C:\Users\<accountname> X:\<backup> /S /COPYALL /NP /LOG:C:\robolog.txt /TEE
    would do it
(it took about 2 hours for 150GB of data for me, over a USB2 link)

Which incarnation of 'microsoft mail' are you using?
in most, if you go to Tools > Options > Maintenance
there's a Store Folder button (you need to repeat this for each identity/user but not for each user's account) - which tells you the data storage location which you can copy and paste to the command
    so you get

    robocopy C:\<mailstore1> X:\<mailbackup1> /S /COPYALL /NP /LOG:C:\robolog.txt /TEE

Once you've reinstalled a new system you can reverse the process for the normal data, but you'll have to Import the mail data.

You'll tehn have to grant your new user permissions to access the data, or modify the robocopy to remove the permissions settings.

I don't know what you mean with incarnation but the info you gave me is very useful I think it will be a lot of help and as I was reading 'bout the robocopy when you get used to it it can be very handy tool.

    Please attempt validation at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate
then start a new thread of your own, and post a new MGADiag there - or people will get confused !
