    Build 7601 Windows not Genuine

My mother received this computer from her government job, and they allowed her to keep it if she fixed it up. She did so and then gave it to me. I've had it a little over a year and now all of a sudden I can't update anything, I can't activate it, everything I do tells me that Windows is not genuine and needs to be activated... saddest part is I'm not sure if she used a "genuine" copy when she restored it. How can I tell? Thanks :)

ran a diagnostic on it... heres what I got:

    Code:

The reason you are getting the 'not genuine' message, based on the diagnostic report you submitted, it looks like the system was part of a key management system (KMS). KMS is what is used to activate systems on a local network which eliminates the need for individual/manual activation. The KMS activation is only valid for 180 days. This means that in order for the system to stay activated in must contact the KMS system within 180 days to stay activated. Usually when a company lets their employees keep an asset such as a laptop, most of the time it is the hardware and not software. Basically they gave your mom the hardware and not the OS key. You will need to purchases a valid copy/key.

Your Dell machine was probably originally shipped with Vista installed - for what version and edition of Windows is the COA sticker vaild?

The current Key is a KMS Volume license for Windows 7 Pro - which is only valid if you are a member of an organistaion with its own KMS server. Are you a member of such an organistaon?
If not - from where did you acquire this copy of Windows 7 Pro? - does the installed Key agree with the Key shown on your packaging?

I might be wrong here, but I think these are answered in the first paragraph of the post? :)
