    KB2719857 and KB2732487 won't install, keep reverting

I am running Win7 professional 64 bit, with MSE antivirus. For the past few days my computer has been nagging me to install some "important updates" but then fails and reverts. They are

    KB2719857 (error 0x800f0826)

    and

    KB2732487 (error 0x80071a90).

I have tried I think all the usual suspects:

    • I've used the Fixit to reset windows update, which it says is fixed. Update then represents, I update, reboot and during configuration the update reverts.
    • I have tried clean booting and installing. No joy. Still reverts on rebooting.
    • I have tried manually installing. I get an error message "The update is not applicable to your computer" for one of the updates.
    • I tried a fix using subinacl to reset admin rights (error 0x800f0826 seems to have something to do with admin rights, though I am always in adminstrator account when doing the updates) but that didn't work.
    • I've tried deleting and recreating the SoftwareDistribution folder.
    • I've used the batch file on these fora for resetting Windows update.

This thing is really annoying, since Windows is constantly nagging me to install, tries to auto install and shuts down my computer if I leave it for a few hours, only to find it's rebooted and failed to install.

Is there anything I can do, short of reinstalling Windows, to fix this problem?

Here's the CBS zip, all 6MB of it. Hope it means more to you than it does to me

(have you also been posting in the MS Community forums??)

    here's the protocol....

    I've uploaded a file - diddle.zip - to my SkyDrive at https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=936736BB8FCEB92F&id=936736BB8FCEB92F%21526
    Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
This should create a folder C:\diddle

Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)
Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
    Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
    At the prompt type
    DIR C:\diddle
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
    DIR D:\diddle
    or
    DIR E:\diddle

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

    XCOPY <drive>:\diddle <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

run the command (it should take almost no time)and when the prompt returns, type
    EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your SkyDrive Public folder, and post a new link

Also run a new MGADiag report, and post the result.

Thanks, I've done all that you suggested and here are the results. New CBS(2) zip is posted below, and here is the MGADiag report.

For what it's worth, after running these scans I tried again to install the updates and again they won't install. Plus there now a third (recommended) update that is refusing to install, KB2592687. And yes I did post on the MS forum but several days passed without a response so I figured I'd come here; when I finally did get a response it's not been terribly helpful either.

Still just the one file missing.

    I've uploaded a file - cwb3.zip - to my SkyDrive at https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=936736BB8FCEB92F&id=936736BB8FCEB92F%21526
    Please download and save it.
Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
This should create a folder C:\cwb3
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)
Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
    Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.
Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
    At the prompt type
    DIR C:\cwb3
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
    DIR D:\cwb3
    or
    DIR E:\cwb3

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

    XCOPY <drive>:\cwb3 <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

run the command (it should take almost no time)and when the prompt returns, type
    EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.
Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file

Run a new CheckSUR, and post the resulting CheckSUR.persist.log file

Latest CBS log file enclosed. Here's the log from the checksur.persist.log file (which in any case comes with the enclosed zip file). I might add that since doing this I had yet another go at installing the updates, and yet again they reverted, despite the final part of the log saying no errors detected.
