    Please copy your CBS.log to the desktop, and zip it, then attach it to your response.

    Great thanks for your help. I have just finished running the scan three times with re-booting in between each one. It still says the same message: that there are corrupt files that cannot be fixed. guess I'll have to do without my Ukranian capabilities ... (joking)

    I really do appreciate your time and input. I would not have been able to sort any of this out on my own.

    Yes, great thanks.

    As Noel suggested, if you post your CBS.log either he or someone else can take a look at it and let you know what files are damaged or corrupt. There's also a way to extract clean copies of those files from a Windows 7 installation disk.

    Extract Files from Windows 7 Installation DVD

    Or, some people prefer to go right to a repair install. A repair install will try to fix your currently installed Windows 7 and preserve your user accounts, data, programs, system drivers etc. If this road is taken, the Windows Update site will have to be visited so updates can be reinstalled.

    Plase post the CBS.log file - you MUST copy the C:\Windows\logs\CBS\CBS.log file to the dektop, and then compress it because it's constantly in-use by the system

    @marsmimar also....
    If we get teh log, I can craft a 5-minute fix to repair most of (if not all) the problems -

    CBS Log

    I'll work with this as I can - and try to get the CBS log posted. I'm traveling over the next several days, so it will be a while before I'll have the time and the attention for it.

    Thanks again.

    Just for my own information, would the fix be user specific or could anyone use it? My one remaining brain cell fogs over with all the sorcery involved.

    Such fixes are absolutely specific to the person for whom they are constructed - unpredictable side-effects may ensue from applying the fix to another computer.
