Reboot first, then attempt the first install - reboot, then attempt the next, and so on.
If any fail, reboot, and proceed to the next
Yes, the SUR report is clear this time.

Held back on KB2761226. Installed the rest in the order suggested, with a reboot after each update. All went on OK, and now Windows Update shows only KB2761226 as waiting to be installed.
Not sure what you mean by running the Fixit. I see Fix-Its all over the Microsoft Knowledge Base but usually they're for patching registry entries. I think you need to direct me to a link. The KB article for KB2761226 does not have a Fix-It.
You guys are great and you've saved me tons of time and work! Thanks!
Al
No problem :)
First, try installing it from the download link I gave you, and see what happens
So close...
I installed KB2761226 from the link and it went on smoothly.
I re-booted...and the system went into an endless boot loop.
Last Known Good did not help. Safe Mode did not help. I did not create a restore point and neither did the system.
I guess I'll be doing a complete reinstall after all. The only thing I've got going for me is I have the ISO file with SP1 on it. I've also got the original retail Windows 7 discs (without SP1) and my backup hard drive (which has Windows 7 but not all of my software installed - long story). I booted off my retail disc to restore the MBR so I could boot off my backup hard drive, and I'm up and running. That's how I'm sending you this. At the same time, I'm burning the ISO file to a DVD.
Do you know if I can do a recovery install on my broken Windows 7 configuration using the SP1 DVD and my retail DVD? I know I could build from my backup drive but I have too many issues doing that (as I said, long story).
Thanks.
Al
I already have. That just added a second boot option "Windows 7 (Recovered)" which gets me to my backup Windows on my other hard drive. Normally I take this option out of the boot menu using msconfig so I don't have to see it. I add it back when I'm in a dire situation like I am now. When I boot to my original Windows I still get the endless boot loop.

What it you attempt to us the Startup repair if you choose your normal system within the Repair option?
I tells me there is nothing to repair. So, I will try the repair install.
